Lincoln – City of Prosperity

Lincoln was the third city of the realm in prosperity and importance in Norman times. Fortunately this year the City Council have managed to find enough resources to keep the Tourist information Office near to the Castle open. Visitors can now find out about the attractions that Lincoln has to offer.

The Collection runs a series of exhibitions and themes across the year.

The Castle

Lincoln Castle was built on a site that was previously occupied by the Romans. Just after the battle of Hastings, William the Conqueror began building the castle in 1068.

The castle was used for 900 years as a court and prison with many people being executed on the ramparts.

Original features still remain and visitors get great views of the Cathedral, the city and the surrounding countryside from the wall walks.

Lincoln Castle is situated in the North centre of Lincoln. The nearest parking facilities can be found at The Lawn Visitor Centre offer the nearest parking with other places in Union Road, Lincoln and Westgate Carpark, Westgate.

The Museum of Life.

The largest and most diverse Community Museum in the County

Our rich and varied social history collection reflects and celebrates the culture of Lincolnshire and its people from 1750 to the present day. Exhibits illustrate commercial, domestic, agricultural, industrial and community life.

As the home to an authentic World War One tank named “Flirt” we also house the interactive galleries of the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment, which have won prestigious national awards. Perhaps you can find information about family members who served here?

Close to the museum you can visit the working 18th century windmill, Ellis’s Mill, run entirely by the museum’s volunteer millers (weekends only).

The Museum is regularly described by its many visitors as “a Lincoln gem” and “Excellent value for money”.

We are pleased to offer a wide range of services including exhibitions in our community gallery, a vibrant special events programme, and education sessions linked to the National Curriculum. We also have a number of ‘loans boxes’ which can be hired by community organisations or schools and offer the chance to discover and handle object from the past.

The museum is fully accessible to wheelchairs users and has a tearoom, gift shop and free parking for cars and coaches.

The Cathedral

Looking at the West front of Lincoln’s fine Cathedral Church of St.Mary, past the pageant of ancient buildings outside the castle walls, the view of its historic soaring towers is awesome. This is the cathedral which John Ruskin called ” the most precious piece of architecture in the British isles” in this Ruskin was right, its sheer beauty is simply magical and its towers can be seen from all around the city.

The Norman cathedral was begun in 1072, and parts from this period can be seen at the west end of the building, where three elaborate portals are surmounted by an exquisite sculptured frieze from 1145. Mostly the cathedral is Gothic in style, and much of the church dates to after an earthquake of 1185. It has been little altered since this time.

The choir was rebuilt in 1192, this was followed by the rebuild of the western part of the church. The Angel choir, so called for its magnificent decoration and huge expanses of stained glass, was added between 1256-80. There-after only minor additions were made.

Important Considerations in New Kitchen Manhattan Projects

The vast majority of people who decide to start with home remodeling, start first with the kitchen; not surprisingly, since the kitchen is the focal point of the house. New Kitchen Manhattan remodeling can be expensive if you do not take under serious consideration some important tips.

Budget is definitely the first thing to consider. You should define your budget, because that can help you make other necessary decisions later on. We all want the best materials for our houses, but it doesn’t always go like that. If you are on a relatively tight budget, or if kitchen is not the only part of the house you want to change, then you should make a priorities list. What needs to be replaced? Is there something that won’t stand in the New Kitchen Manhattan you are making? What is the design going to be? Are you opting for a minimal design or something warm with wood cabinets and granite sink and boards? You can be as flexible as you want, when it comes to kitchens, or as flexible as you can afford based on your requirements and needs. This is your house after all and you will be living in it.

Home remodeling is usually confusing, since many home owners have a hard time deciding on the scope of work. If you are hiring a New Bathroom Brooklyn professional to rebuild your bathroom and at the same time you are making plans for your new kitchen Manhattan, then you should probably reconsider; having two major constructions simultaneously in the house is not good and is not convenient for anyone.

Moreover, when you are making your home remodeling plans, you do need to consider that building two of the most necessary rooms at the same time can cause an array of practical problems hard to solve.  Decide on your new bathroom Brooklyn once you are done with the kitchen; take one step at the time and always start with the one that is more necessary and will take more time; if you intent to replace cabinetry and appliances, the cost and the time will be an important denominator on your next decision.

What You Should Be Aware of Before Deciding on New Siding Queens

Nowadays, numerous homeowners in NY decide to spend some money on their house to replace the old sidings, hoping to make their houses look revitalized and fresh. Of course there is nothing wrong with any home improvement Brooklyn or new Siding Queens ideas. They are both nice and necessary and can add value to the house. There are though several things to consider prior to any rebuilding or outbuilding, because your current choice may have different results and consequences.

First of all you need to know that mechanics and architects do not like rebuilding. The reason for that is that they think that it is a method to cover damages or deficiencies of the house. Therefore, if you intent to repair your house so as to sell it, you might get involved in some not very desirable situations. It is recommended, prior to any home improvement Brooklyn or new Siding Queens changes to take pictures of the house and keep them in case the future buyer or a consultant ask for them.

In addition, you always need to consider what types of sidings you are going to use; rebuilding might sound fancy but it can be quite daunting if you are not familiar with the several types of siding available; will you opt for vinyl or wood? Should you go for plastic, metal, asbestos or a combination of materials? Factors such as climate, budget and original construction play an important role to your final decision; therefore you need to make sure that you know what you are doing.

Depending on your location, your home improvement Brooklyn or new Siding Queens choices may coincide with other buildings in the area; you also need to check if there are any restrictions regarding materials. For instance, in some areas in the US asbestos is not very welcome, due to its shady elements – it is considered to be toxic, thus, not that desirable. If you decide to use it your rebuilding process might be prohibited and interrupted.

Make sure that your home improvement ideas and choices are not obsolete or unwelcome.
