Tips On How To Use Monorail Lighting

Monorail lighting uses low-voltage power with a single circuit and two conductors. Monorail is customizable to fit any style and lighting applications. Low voltage track lighting is needed for accent and task lighting with its halogen and xenon bulbs.

There are three types of fixtures that can be attached to monorail – QP Pendants, QF heads, and basic monorail fixtures. If you are using QF heads and QP Pendants, you will need a quick connect adapter. But, the basic monorail fixtures can be attached directly to the track.

Generally, glass and metal shapes are the common materials used for monorail fixtures. The shades come in different variations. Almost all fixtures are supplied with 12 voltage bulbs. If the transformer used has 24Voltage, it is important to use 24V bulb. You can also choose to use low wattage, if the bulb is too bright; by using low voltage track lighting.

It is important to plan the layout for your Monorail lighting. If you are a layout newbie it is recommended you use the lighting kits provided by the lighting store. These kits contain everything you need for the layout of your monorails.

To determine the length of the monorail, draw a scale or use a tape measure. To trace the layout, you have to use a string. Measure the string to calculate the length of rail. The rail may be cut in the fields to desired lengths. To have longer single-circuit runs, you can join sections to each other, using the “L” and “T” couplers.

The monorail lighting power is the next thing to work. This lighting should be Low voltage track lighting. This type of lighting should have a power supply with a maximum of 25 A. This is equivalent to 300W at 12V or 600W at 24V. This part is tricky because you have to determine the sum of the wattages of the bulbs to be connected to the monorail.

If the sum is less than your transformer wattage, then you just need this transformer. On the other hand, if the sum of the bulbs to be connected to the monorail is more than the wattage of your transformer, you will have to use one of higher wattage. Make sure that the monorail runs are powered separately by different transformers. One way this can be done is by using non-conductive connector.

Low voltage track lighting can be used for corner lamps, floor lamps, wall sconces, recessed lighting fixtures and chandelier. Monorail lighting can be used for home remodeling or commercial buildings, because of its unlimited design. Restaurants use monorail lighting for accent and spot lighting. Homes use low voltage for accent and task purposes.

After you have finished working on the circuit and transformer, the next task to do is to drill holes where you need them. Remember that the holes are proportional to the holes used to connect the monorail to the ceiling or wall.

Connect the track to the holes made. Monorail lighting that uses direct connections are simply screwed into the wall or ceiling. Make sure that the fixtures are tightly in place. You are now ready to turn on your lights and enjoy your work.

Beijing – Capital City of China

We had requested twin beds, but got two kings instead. Lee, annoyed, called the desk since he had reserved the room. Housekeeping informed us that one of the large beds could be separated into two twins, but the other could not. They came up with twin linens and separated the one that could be, which turned out to be the one in my and Lee’s room. They said they would bring a rollaway bed up and set it up in the living room for us. Doug volunteered to take the rollaway, which left Dave with the king bed in the other room.

Ok, problem solved, let’s go check out the hotel!

The concierge told us that amenities here were complimentary, not an extra charge like they were in Japan. (the pool area at the New Otani Hotel cost over $40 to use! no thanks!) The guys went to the gym, I went to check out the pool complex. It was huge! A large pool with many different depths, it had large pillars in the middle and artificial stone work all around. It had a waterfall, 2 “grottos” with hot tubs, caves, trees, the whole nine yards. With all the plants and rocks, plus bird and animal noises coming from hidden speakers, the place was kind of like a secluded jungle lagoon. Every lounge chair had an oversized rolled towel on it, as well as a complimentary bottle of water, with several pool attendants constantly refreshing them.

The locker room had another hot tub, as well as a sauna, steam room, lockers, and free toiletries such as razors, shaving cream and toothbrushes. Very nice! They even had a little centrifuge machine that could get all the water out of your bathing suit in about 15 seconds…and little plastic bags to put the suit in after that…they really thought of everything! I went for a swim and a soak in one of the hot tubs, and was soon joined by the rest of the guys from the gym. After lounging around there for an hour or so, we decided to head upstairs to start getting ready for dinner.

When we got back to the room, both Dave and Doug were shocked to find both their wallets and passports were missing!!! They had both left them in their bags on the floor, and now they were not there! (both Lee’s bags and mine were apparently untouched) I had remembered seeing Dave’s wallet, visible in his open bag, when I left the room, but didn’t think anything of it.

Now, it was clearly missing, and he was ready to kill someone! He dumped his suitcase all over the room, making a huge mess, in a futile attempt to find his missing items. Losing your passport and visa and wallet, on your first day in China…not good! It was about this time that Lee noticed a note from the hotel staff on the table, asking us to phone the front desk for instructions on how to operate the safe. He put two and two together, and called them while Doug and Dave tore through everything. The desk said that housekeeping had noticed the wallets in the open bags, and had put them in the safe. It was a huge relief to Dave and Doug when they opened the safe and found the missing items! It was a terrifying 5 minutes up until then, though! They were thrilled to have their stuff back, but still pretty pissed off that someone had taken it upon themselves to go into their bags and remove these items.

It would have saved a lot of time and trouble if they had only said that in the note!

For dinner, the concierge had recommended a place in the mall next to the hotel. They didn’t speak much English, but we just pointed at several dishes on the menu and shared. The food was decent, although one dish was very hot with chili’s…we didn’t finish that one! It was 9:30 pm by the time we finished, and the mall was closing up, so we had to walk the long way around to get back to the hotel. We did some exploring around the hotel, going up and down stairs, checking out the piano bar in the lobby, etc. We found a bar around the corner from the reception desk, and went in to check it out. It was very dark and smoky in the bar, also very small and crowded, so we didn’t even stay for a drink.

I’m used to Connecticut, where they don’t even allow smoking in bars! Just being in there was making my eyes water. When we came out of the bar again, there was a well dressed Asian woman in the lobby, giving us the eye. We had seen her when we went into the bar, but paid her no mind. Now, she seemed to be checking us out. Dave said, “Hey, I bet that’s a hooker!” Naw, we thought…she seems to be to well dressed, and professional looking. looks like a regular business woman to me! “Oh yeah?” said Dave, “Watch this. lets stand right here for a few minutes” We stopped in the middle of the lobby, and stood in a semi-circle, facing each other. Within 10 seconds, she came walking over to us! “Hello, would someone like to have a drink with me?” she asked.

“uh..no, not really!” we replied. ” Well, would you like me to come up to your room with you? ” Boy, talk about direct! No thanks, lady, not interested! “well, here, take this in case you want to talk later” Talk? She then attempted to hand us a small strip of paper, written in Chinese. (she had several) phone number? business card? I don’t know, we didn’t take one, and she walked away and went back to the bar. I almost wish I had taken one, it would have been an amusing souvenir, a hand-written business card from a Chinese hooker! But, I certainly didn’t want to give her any false encouragement! No, that is definitely NOT the kind of entertainment we came to Asia for! “See, I told you guys!” said Dave.

Yeah, yeah, you sure can spot ‘em! We went back to our room to relax and prepare for tomorrow….by ourselves!

Domestic Cleaning – Not An Ordeal

No matter what we do during the day, we start and end at our home, with our family. Coming back home, from work or vacation, is always blissful. It gives a peace of mind, a sense of belonging. But what if you find your house is been intruded by rodents? The roaches feeding on your kitchen gives you a heart sinking feel. You never want to share your wardrobe with termites. Keeping all the intruders away from your home requires regular domestic cleaning.

Domestic cleaning is a tedious and never ending job. Kitchen, living room or bathroom, not even a single corner of the house can be left unattended. Following some tips and practices makes the job less dreary.

Cleaning begins with sweeping out the dust and the weapon used here is a brush or a hoover. The tip is: pick the correct brush. Choose a long handled brush for wiping off all the spider webs from the corners. The rotating brush is perfect for cleaning the carpet. A small, handy and soft bristle brush works wonders on window panes. Keeping in mind the lack of time, markets are dwelling lot of automatic, user friendly, light weight sweeper equipments. Also, available in the market are the scrubber drier machines which are suitable for cleaning floors from oil, dirt and sludge.

After the dust has been removed the second step is placing the stuff at a right place. Assigning a proper place for everything from buffer stock to domestic supplies helps in keeping the home in order. All the family members should be instructed for putting the dirty clothes in the laundry bag. Children should develop a habit of cleaning their rooms before leaving. A practice of weekly organising and methodical housing the stuff in wardrobe, on shelves and in cabinets makes the place look clean.

The next measure is the heart breaking task of clutter removal. Decide the number of clothes that can be neatly housed in the wardrobe. Do not let that number increase. Parents should manage the toys and games their kids play with. Throw away all the furniture, appliances and utensils that are no longer in use.

Pets in house should be toilet trained. A light mop in the kitchen, over the worktop, prevents the roaches and ants from stowing in our eating place. The wooden furniture should be periodically treated for termites.

Following a hand full of rules will completely change your vision of domestic cleaning. These practices can make you a proud home maker and your home beautiful and healthy.
